Picnic Outing

It was a cold and wet morning on the day that team Erasito went on the company’s picnic. Not much should be expected of the weather this far East on Viti Levu.  However, our hopes were high in ECL 4 as we made our way down to Pacific Harbour to secure a spot for the rest of the crew.  Upon arrival, we set to work in the rain with Lorin at the helm, foreman Terence directing his two trusty workmen, Garth and I.  Quick work was made of what seemed like an elephant task – the first of many celebratory bottles were cracked open.  Though we could not help but feel that something was missing.

Missing thoughts aside, the rest of the posse soon poured in from both Nadi and Suva, with them, food and smiles all around.  All were soon huddled up in the impeccably stable tarpaulin shelter for a fine mix of the brown stuff and comical relief from comedians young and old to ease the stressed minds of the hardworking bunch.  With famished stomachs soon crowding the wonderful spread organised by the assiduous committee it soon became evident what was missing, a combination of red and yellow, sweet and succulent fruit – we all wondered how we could have forgotten our fruits.  Team Beca soon showed up and with gifts of fresh Coconuts bringing about the climax of the picnic.  The playful laughter of youngsters and would-be youngsters arising from all corners of the picnic site brought about a sense of togetherness and jubilation.

Wrapping up the whole episode by cleaning the entire surrounds and leaving it in a better condition than when we arrived – even to the extent of picking up the rubbish of picnickers long gone.  Content, relieved and refreshed, the team left with hearts and stomachs full, closing out a perfect outing – missing fruits and weather aside.
